The cards were distributed with detachable coupons that were placed inside cartons of Hires Root Beer. The "Join the Hires Baseball Club Today" perforated tabs were often torn off. It is very hard to get a card with the advertisement tab intact, making them quite pricey. Each item features a colored player representation encircled by a faux wood grain pattern that provides the impression that the viewer is seeing through a knot hole. The bottom edge displays his name, team, and position.The player's bio, the card number, a sentence describing their career, and a bottle of Hires Root Beer were all displayed on the card's reverse.
