Basic Features

The World Series champion Chicago Cubs gives celebrities like actresses, singers, and athletes the great honor of throwing out the ceremonial first pitch to start a game at historic Wrigley Field. The 2017 Topps First Pitch, now in its third year, included numerous Wrigley Field celebrities, and Topps included them in their insert collection. This would be their final year of doing it.

The front of this fun insert shows the celebrities standing on the mound trying to toss the ball 60 feet to the catcher, most of whom had trouble doing it. The reverse side features a biography of their careers; this insert featured two series.

Cubs players you might not be familiar with Cliff Heathcote

Cliff Heathcote


was born on January 24, 1898 in Glen Rock, Pennsylvania

Dubbed "Rubberhead" because a routine fly ball that he was fielding bounced off his head early in his career, On May 30, 1922, during a doubleheader, the wackiest deal in baseball history took place. Heathcote was exchanged for Max Flack. Heathcote participated in the first game for the Cardinals and the second one for the Cubs. For their new teams, both athletes opened the afternoon game in right field. Later that year, on August 25, in a wild 26-23 Cubs victory over the Phillies, Heathcote set a modern National League record by reaching base seven times in a nine-inning game. Heathcote went 5-for-5 plus two walks.
