1957 Swift Meats Baseball Game

Who would ever collect these weird, mostly unknown cubs memorabilia? Well, I do, and if you do, then you're a hard-core Cubs collector.

Number of Cards

1957 Swift Meats has 18 cards which there is 1 Cubs player

Size of Cards

The size of the cards are approximately 3 1/2" by 4"

Basic Features

The Swift Company published these full-color, numbered cards in 1957. They are die-cut and feature rounded corners. The cards in this one-of-a-kind, brightly colored deck were designed to be punched out and fashioned into 3-D models of the players.

Swift Meats provided the cards and a game board. The company-direct set was made up of three panels, each with six cards; uncut sets are valued 25% more than single cards found in hot dog packages.

Nine players from the National League and nine from the American League are on the roster... Dale Long, first baseman for the Chicago Cubs, is a member of the National Leaguers.

This has to be one of the most odd sets of the 1950s. The game itself was entertaining. Each player was used as a game piece. A spinner and the Swift Meats emblem are on the gameboard. This might be for you if you're a die-hard oddity collector.

Chicago Cubs Checklist

Dale Long was a three-year first baseman for the Cubs. As a Cub, he hit 55 of his 132 career home runs. During the 1958 season, Dale was called upon to play catcher twice, making him the first left-handed catcher in the major leagues since Jiggs Donohue in 1902. He hit a home run in eight straight games and hit back-to-back pinch-hit home runs, setting two long ball records.

1966 -1967 Pro's Pizza Chicago Cubs Checklist

Who would ever collect these weird, mostly unknown cubs memorabilia? Well, I do, and if you do, then you're a hard-core Cubs collector.

Let's face it, they're pizza boxes, and I remember walking around Wrigley, finding some of these and bringing them home. The stinky boxes lasted about a week before getting tossed in the garbage. Even though I protested greatly, I lost the battle. Traumatizing experience, to say the least!

Pro's Pizza was a concessionaire stand at Wrigley Field selling individual serving-size pizzas featuring player pictures on their lidsThe 1966 pizza boxes were around 6x6 inches and had a black-and-white photo with white-and-red stripes with some kind figures on the right side.

Ron Santo was involved in management at the time this set was issued.
